Dehradun: As many as 100 families speaking fluent Sanskrit, have come to Haridwar from across the country to attend a two-day sanskrit convention organised by Uttarakhand Sanskrit Academy.
Buddhdev Sharma, Secretary, Uttarakhand Sanskrit Academy, told the convention was being held to promote the idea of making Sanskrit a 'state language'. He said 100 families had come from two villages of Karnataka- Muttur and Roshahalli, Mohad and Giri villages of Madhya Pradesh. The families, which include elders as well as young children, chaste Sanskrit.
The Sanskrit-speaking villagers will discuss various issues regarding using Sanskrit in their day-today life. Two villages of Uttarakhand had been selected where use of Sanskrit in day-today life would be encouraged, Dr Sharma said. The names of these two villages of the state will be announced shortly, he added.
