Bhubaneswar: Adhikar a state level non government organisation has collected more than two hundred bags of new and old clothes along with other house-hold materials from the benevolent donors of the city as a part of nation wide campaign cloth for work.

Goonj” a Delhi based organisation had given a clarion call to the state-level organisations to undertake this cloth for work programme and assured the materials collected through this compaign would be utilised for rural developmental works.

Responding to this call Adhikar had opened four collection centres in the state capital and appealed to the enhabitants to donate through it’s volunteers. As per the guideline of the campaign volunteers moved from door to door in different areas of the city and requested them to come to the collection centres with their materials.

Four collection centres were opened in the city at Saheed Nagar Durga Mandap, Sitanath High School (Sailashree Vihar) Adhikar Microfinance office (near Golap Resort in Nayapalli area) Biju Pattanaik College(near Jayadev vihar) and volunteers received the materials at those centres between 8 am to 8 pm. From 2nd to 6th oct.

The spontaneous contribution of pen, pencil, cutter, books and note books by the little school children was the high light of this five day long campaign. Volunteers have said, when the schools were re opened on oct 5 after puja vacation, teachers told them about the importance of this Nation wide campaign.

The kids were so impressed that they instantly volunteered to offer whatever that was at their disposal, even some children insisted to contribute tifin box along with the tiffin as they had nothing else to donate. Besides, the students of Ramadevi Women’s college and inhabitants of Nanda devi Appartment (Sailashree Vihar) played significant role during this five day long compaign by contributing heavily.

President of Adhikar Md. N. Amin has maintained, about fourty volunteers of Ekata Parishad and his organisation were engaged in this campaign programme of sensitising the people about this collection drive and receiving the materials at the centres. As people of the city have responded will and shown much interest in this activity, which has been put in place for the first time in the state, we are contemplating to continue this programme at different times of the year keeping ths public convenience in view he said.

Mr. Amin has also pointed out, a holistic plan will be chalked out in consultation with the Goonj authorities for optimal utilisation of the collected materials.
