Amar Singh denies Amitabh's drift towards BJP

New Delhi: Expelled Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh today dubbed 'frivolous', the insinuations of the Samajwadi Party that cinestar Amitabh Bachchan was 'drifting' towards the BJP after the veteran actor agreed to become the brand ambassador of Gujarat Tourism.

Mr Singh denied that it was an exercise by the actor to seek a renewed term for Jaya Bachhan, his wife, in the Upper House.

Describing the suggestions of SP Spokesman and General Secretary Mohan Singh as childish, Mr Singh said the actor's decision to accept Gujarat Government's offer during his visit to the state to promote his film 'Paa' was a business one.

''Mr Bachhan met Mr Narendra Modi as Chief Minister not as an RSS activist,'' the estranged SP leader wrote in his blog. Mr Bachhan accepted the offer to become a brand ambassador for Gujarat Tourism and would probably accept a similar offer by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to become the brand ambassador for the Taj Mahal. ''Such decisions will not amount to acceptance of any ideology,'' Mr Singh contended.

Mr Mohan Singh, who was only in his job as spokesman just a fortnight ago, should learn to differentiate between a business proposition and acceptance of saffron ideology.

''He is blaming me for trivialising the SP politics by bringing in cinema stars as crowd pullers. He should recall that the first cinestar to join the SP politics was Mr Raj Babbar, the Congress Lok Sabha MP. I certainly had no role in bringing him (Mr Babbar) into the SP,'' the high profile Rajya Sabha MP wrote.

Mr Mohan Singh also should remember his own party's history of nominating rich industrialist Sanjay Dalmia as an MP in the Rajya Sabha.

''This capitalist also happens to be the son of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Vishnu Hari Dalmia,'' he observed in the blog.
