Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet today gave in principle approval for the implementation of University Grants Commission (UGC) revised pay scales 2006, with effect from January 1, 2006.
The Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K Rosaiah, took the decision to benefit teachers in university colleges and eligible teachers in government and aided degree colleges in the state, Information Minister J Geeta Reddy told reporters in a post-cabinet meeting briefing.
The total financial implication towards payment of arrears up to March 31, 2010 would be Rs 1,080 crore, of which Rs 864 crore would be borne by the Centre and the remaining by the state government. The annual recurring expenditure of about Rs 330 crore would be borne entirely by the state government, she said.
The Cabinet gave its nod for promulgation of an ordinance to provide for 20 per cent seats in the prestigious ''NALSAR University'' in favour of students from Andhra Pradesh, she said, adding while filling up of 20 per cent reserved seats, the rule of reservation would be applied to benefit SCs/STs/BCs and physically handicapped students.
The Cabinet sanctioned Rs 20 crore for construction of buildings in 21 polytechnics in the state, she said, adding the sports quota was increased from 0.5 per cent to two per cent for nomination of members to the board of management to sports bodies coming under the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh.
She said the Cabinet gave green signal for setting up at a cost of Rs 2.15 crore nine more family courts in the districts of Hyderabad, Nellore, Prakasam, Adilabad, Srikakulam, Mahboobnagar, Nalgonda, Medak and East Godavari.
The Cabinet extended the term of Farmers Management Committee by a year till elections to various Water User Associations to be held in 2011, she added.
