Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to appeal in the Supreme Court against the ruling of the Andhra Pradesh High Court which today struck down the law providing four per cent reservation to 15 Backward groups within the Muslim Community.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah held detailed discussions with some of his Cabinet Colleagues and legal experts, including the State Advocate General, before taking the decision, Information Minister J Geeta Reddy told reporters.

''There will be no going back on the Congress Government's resolve to provide reservation for Backward within the Muslim Community,'' she said, asserting, ‘‘We will take all necessary steps to overcome legal hurdles.''

The ruling Congress was fully committed to implement the poll promise made by Former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, State Information Technology Minister K Venkata Reddy said.

If needed, State Congress Leaders would press for amending the Constitution to ensure reservation for Muslims, State Civil Supplies Minister J Krishna Rao said.
