Congress takes initial lead in civic polls in Rajasthan

Jaipur: The ruling Congress, BSP and Independent have won as president/chairperson in one civic body each while Congress candidates were leading in 12 of the 46 civic bodies in the November 23 polls in Rajasthan.

As per the initial trends, BJP candidates were leading in three local bodies. Congress nominee Rajesh Tailer was declared elected as chairperson in Banswara Municipality, while Independent Ashok Kumar won the election for the post in Mangrol in Baran district and BSP's Nand Kishore Mordiya elected as Chairman in Rajgarh in Churu district.

Congress nominees for the posts of presiding officer were leading in Jodhpur, Pali, Nathdwara, Sikar, Mount Abu, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jhunjhunu, Barmer, Chittorgarh, Churu and Jaisalmer, while BJP nominees were ahead in Jaipur, Alwar and Sumerpur.

In Jaipur, BJP's mayoral nominee Suman Sharma was leading over her Congress rival by about 4000 votes, while in Jodhpur Congress mayoral nominee Rameshwar Dadhich was leading over his nearest BJP rival Prasan Chand by over 3000 votes.
