Kurbaan-setting new trends in fashion this winter

New Delhi: Kurbaan's controversial promo poster might have hog headlines but there is a lot more in the movie then just the poster. Designer Akki Narula has done a superb job in giving an overall general looks to the lead actors in the movie.

Akki Narula has worked with Karan Johar before in Dostana which create quite a ripples, not the movie, but the fashion trends it set after its release. And it seems Karan Johar is banking on Narula to deliver it again and Narula will be hoping for the same.

You would not guess the kind of detailing that Akki does for his films. Akki reveals that his look for the characters was based on the seasons, economic stature and demographics. So we have Kareena Kapoor wearing outfits in rust, burgundy, purple, olive green and blue. The outfits mostly consist of full sleeved tee shirts with deep V shaped necklines. The tees are worn with ankle length crinkled skirts. The skirts have a lot of Jaipuri and zardosi embellishments. But what will take you by surprise is that Bebo will be seen wearing churidaars and mojris along with the tee-skirt outfit. This is bound to set a new trend for the college crowd. Keeping in mind the climatic setting of the story, Akki has given Bebo a lot many scarves to accessorize her outfits, along with silver oxidized jewelry from Delhi markets.

Ater Kareena’s character flies off to the USA post marriage, she will be seen wearing the same tee shirts, minus the skirts and churidaars. The American look will have her tees paired off with jeans and trench coats or with track pants. The silver jewelry stays. But keeping in tune with the serious turn of events, the colors of Kareena’s outfits change into blues, greys and blacks.

For Saif Ali Khan, Akki has kept the look rather simple and real. Since he plays a professor, he will be seen wearing jeans and shirts along with sweaters. Saif will also be seen sporting short Pathani kurtas with his jeans. Like Kareena, Saif’s character also wears more of coats and jackets post shifting to USA. As the story becomes more serious, again the color palette will shift to darker shades.

Dia Mirza and Viveik Oberoi play reporters in the film. Akki has given Dia the look of a media professional, complete with short skirts and short jackets teamed with work bags. Viveik is seen wearing dark jeans with tees, sweaters, jackets and wind cheaters. Apart from these actors, Akki has also dressed Om Puri and Kirron Kher in Kurbaan. We don’t think their costumes will be setting any trends this season. So we would rather not spill the beans about their characters.

Considering that the winter has set in, Kareena Kapoor’s character in Kurbaan is all set to start new fashion trends for young women in North India and rest of the country. But will the film also be as successful as Akki’s clothes?

That remains to be found out!
