Kathmandu: Though several organizations are appealing to stop brutality on animals, but Nepal has nothing to do with it, as the country is busy to host this month Gadhimai mela , which is ready to sacrifice half a million animal .
Leading animal rights activists Maneka Gandhi and Nepal’s Buddha Roy have already voiced against cruelty but failed to make any impact on the animal sacrifice fair. The fair is known to be the largest animal sacrifice fair, which held every five years at Bariyapur in Bara of southern Nepal. It is to be anticipated that it will catch attention of devotees across Nepal as well as Indian states.
Receiving voice against the sacrifice fair hasn’t upset the Nepal government yet. Even it has refuted to get into the matter, as it is religious custom to conciliate Goddess Gadhimai and instead of taking any action decided to facilitate the pilgrim for the two-day ritual beginning on November 24.
Home Minister Bhim Rawal has promised that the development committee of parliament will provide full security and this regard 150 additional security personnel would be deployed in the mela.
The committee chairman told reporters that certainly security is a primary concern for large gathering at the fair and whether the ritual should continue or not, people have different mindest.
It is to be meant that around 500,000 animals including buffaloes, goats, ducks, roosters and pigeons would be sacrificed at the fair to appease the goddess.
