Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has no plan to give unemployment allowance to the youths in the state, the state Assembly was informed today.
Unemployment allowance would not redress the problems of the youths. So, the job-oriented initiatives had been launched by the state government, UP Employment Minister Bhagwati Prasad Sagar told the House in reply to a question of Ajay Tomar (RLD).
Replying to supplementaries, the Minister said the Mayawati government was not in favour of giving unemployment allowance as it might leave the youths a bit careless in their approach.
During the previous Mulayam government, five lakh youths were paid Rs 500 per month as unemployment allowance which cost the state exchequer a burden of Rs 25 crore.
He said there was a massive decline in the registration in the state employment exchanges in 2009.
In fact, 21 lakh youths were registered in 2009 as compared to about 31 lakh registration in 2008 which could be due to job creation in the state, he said.
