Reservation cannot be abolished immediately: Rahul Gandhi

Kota: AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi today said under the prevailing circumstances the ongoing reservation system could not be abolished immediately.

Participating in the question answer session, during interaction with students studying at various coaching institutes here, Mr Gandhi said that there were certainly two contradictory opinions about the reservation system.

"While one advocates for immediate abolition of reservation the other opinion opposes to the idea," he observed.
The young Congress MP said in the present context reservation could not be abolished immediately.

Mr Gandhi's remarks came in response to question from a student who had asked the relevance of reservation and held that it was not in the interest of bright and talented youth.

One student objected over setting up of IIT in Jodhpur and said it was earlier supposed to be set up in Kota as this city had all necessary infrastructure.

However, Mr Gandhi transferred this question to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who explained that the venue for IIT was selected by two high-powered committees of experts from the state and the Centre.

One student expressed his dissatisfaction over process of allotment of tickets in the Congress and said "you do advocate for encouragement of youth but your party at the eleventh hour allots tickets to veterans and aged leaders".

Mr Gandhi disagreed to his opinion and said a massive campaign had been launched to facilitate youths to carve their way into political arena.

A question about the young Gandhi's marriage plans was returned unanswered with a smile.

In his opening remarks, Mr Gandhi called upon educated youngsters to come forward to play active role in making politics transparent and clean to a greater extent.
