Jammu: International forum for justice & human rights forum J&K Chairman Mr. Ahsan Untoo and Relatives of Kashmiri detainees languishing in different jails in India are concerned about their plight.
There are scores of Kashmiris booked under different terrorist related offences in different states of India. We are concerned about the denial of fair trial to them, which is a universally recognized right. Many Bar Associations in different states have passed resolutions debarring the lawyers from representing Kashmiri detainees in the courts. The legal aid committees are not providing any legal relief to them. The lawyers who are appearing while defying the Bar resolutions are charging exorbitant fees which the relatives and family members of the detainees cannot afford.
The trials continue for years even without presenting the accused before the courts on one or the other pretext, thereby causing infringement of the right to speedy trial which is a fundamental right. Even the Local Human Rights Organizations are hesitant to provide any kind of relief to them.
The detainees are tortured inside the jails and the complaints made by them to the concerned authorities even to the judicial authorities are ignored. The relatives are facing security problems and the racist behavior from the section of the population in these states has prevented them from extending the support to such detainees/Relatives.
The International Forum For Justice/Human Rights Forum (IFJ/HRF) headed by Mr. Ahsan Untoo, is an organization which is campaigning for the rights of Kashmiri detainees facing trial in different states of India, is urging upon the ICRC (International Committee of Red Cross) and other International Organizations concerned about the Rights of Prisoners to take a position on the plight of Kashmiri detainees. Besides IFJ/HRF Chairman appeals to the voluntary and the political movements in India and international community come forward for the rescue of the rights of the Kashmiri detainees which is universally recognized according to the ICCPR (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights).
