Bhopal: Imagine a solar power plant reducing carbon dioxide emission by 98 per cent annually -- sufficient to trade carbon credits in the country's commodity exchanges.
This is exactly what city-based Omega Renk Bearings (ORB) Pvt Ltd aims to achieve by reducing 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission from its Rs 2.5-crore plant -- claimed to be the first in the country -- that went on stream on Wednesday at Khajuri Khurd by Raisen Road near the Madhya Pradesh capital.
''The plant, set up by ORB in cooperation with the German Gildemeister Group, has two panels of 247.22 sq m each with the capacity to reduce emission to that degree. This directly implies that the company gets 100 credit points,'' ORB Managing Director Sushil Prakash told UNI.
Carbon credits to be saved would be traded on the commodity bourse MCX.
''We expect to earn in the range of 17 to 22 euros for each carbon credit sold. The power being generated by the unit in the Solar Park spread over two acres is similar to supplying power to more than 100 Indian households with each consuming 1,500 kWh,'' he said.
