Chief Minister Mayawati has announced the gift in assembly by saying that the government has decided to hike the salary and perks of members in both the Houses to Rs 50,000 per month from existing Rs 30,000.

In the current format an MLA or MLC was receiving Rs 3,000 as monthly salary, Rs 15,000 constituency allowance, Rs 6,000 medical allowance and Rs 6,000 as secretary allowance.
