The Andhra Pradesh police slapped on two multi-level marketing companies. All the 18 cases filed against GoldQuest International Ltd in Andhra Pradesh have been transferred to the state Crime Investigation Department (CID).
The GoldQuest scheme rocked the state in May with police booking cases against some senior health department officials and prominent doctors of the district. Besides Warangal, cases have been booked against the company in Vijayawada, Kakinada, Vizag and Guntur.
The managing director of GoldQuest, Ms Pushpam Appala Naidu, who was remanded to the judicial custody two months ago is currently in Chennai prison. Some famous film personalities are said to be involved with this company. Police argue that the scheme is similar to pyramid marketing which is banned.
Meanwhile, the state government banned the controversial multi-level marketing company Amway India Enterprises from publishing any material and advertisements violating the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act.
The crime investigation department booked cases against Amway alleging it is just a money circulation scheme. The home department has asked Amway not to publicise their schemes in violation with the Act.
The department warned that any such material will be forfeited. The police has filed a chargesheet against Amway in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court.
