127 fire cracker stalls catch fire, one killed

Dehra Dun: At least one person was killed and several injured when over a hundred firework stalls caught fire in Rampur area of Uddamsinghnagar district today.

According to Uddhamsinghnagar SSP Deepak Ghildiyal, 127 firework stalls erected at the Gandhi Park in Rampur area caught fire accidently, killing an aged man and injuring several others.

''' As the stalls were lined in one row, the fire managed to engulf all the stalls'', he told UNI, adding, '' An aged man was killed while several others escaped with minor injuries''.

He informed that five fire engines were pressed into service to douse the fire which was controlled within half an hour.

The District Magistrate had ordered an inquiry into the incident, he said, adding formalities in alloting compensation to the stall owners was under process.
