Itanagar: Former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang, whose youngest son returned home from captivity, today demanded a CBI probe into the kidnapping and denied the charge that it was the handiwork of an insider.

Addressing a press conference soon after the one convened by the Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, Apang said, "How can a relative kidnap my son at gun point".

A maternal uncle of Getem Apang and two others were arrested in connection with his kidnap and the Chief Minister had said his goverenment could not be blamed if family members were involved.

Asked specifically if Tahak Tatak, one of the three arrested in connection with Getem''s kidnapping is a maternal uncle of Getem, Apang said "May be. Law should take its own course against any offender".

"Get it enquired by the CBI and the truth will come out", he said.

Referring to Khandu's statement expressing the state government's inability to do anything if a family member is involved in the crime, Apang said it reflects the sick mind of a person who could say such a thing.

Apang said the Centre had put pressure on Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments and the Army was also instructed to extend support in the search.

Apang said there were quite a number of calls from Kolkata and Guwahati demanding ransom but the family did not make any payment. He said he had given clear instruction to family members not to succumb to any ransom demand as he had never harmed anybody and the kidnappers should allow his son to talk to him first.

Among other factors, his appeal at a public meeting at Gohpur in Assam on June 25 might also have worked, he said.

Asked if he felt the law and order situation was deteriorating, Apang said the people were feeling the pinch as brutal murder and kidnapping were taking place in the state capital "every now and then." Acknowledging the tremendous support he received from people, including Getems friends and the help from NGOs and student bodies, Apang said "The credit for the release of my son and his music teacher should go to all of them".
