Four Maoists, including LGS Ukesh commander having award Rs 4 lakh on his head, were on Sunday killed in a fierce gun-battle with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.
The operation was conducted by a team under the supervision of Additional SP Mohit Garg on Sunday evening after they got a tip-off about movement of Maoists in Kokapara-Tumnar limits Kotwali Police Station.
Two of the Maoists have been identified, one was Ukesh LGS Commander of Gangloor Area Committee and another was Raju Second in command of Maoist armed group functioning in the same area. The identity of the other two slain Maoists yet to be confirmed.
Three weapons – one country made pistol, 1.9mm pistol and 1 Bharmar were also recovered from the spot.
During the encounter ASI Devendra Dharro received bullet injuries and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The area of Tumnar, where the fierce encounter took place was flooded due rains, confirmed a police officer.
Heavy rains have disrupted the BSNL cables, it has been informed that fault occurred in OFC cable between Bhairamgarh and Jangla leading to halting of BSNL services in whole BIjapur for last 70 hours, still remained unrepaired.
