If you ever needed proof that technology is taking over, this latest development should do it.
A new fibre optic sensor created in Germany can now test for a variety of medical conditions including diabetes and pregnancy, by monitoring fluids including blood, urine, saliva, sweat or breath.
Researchers from the University of Hanover, Germany designed the fibre optic strip to sit in your smartphone, meaning your diagnosis is now in the palm of your hand (and we’re not talking about googling your symptoms).
According to the paper published in the Optics Express, the handy strip will also have a built-in GPS signal directing you to the closest pharmacy or hospital.
Although the research paper indicates the technology will be readily available in the short term, they still don’t feel they will act as a complete replacement for pregnancy tests yet.
Which is pretty important to note, before people start peeing on their smartphones
