Tournament shifted to UAE; first match on October 17: Reports

The ICC T20 World Cup, which was set to take place in India will be held in UAE due to the coronavirus situation. The second wave of the pandemic heavily impacted the cricketing circuit in India as the IPL was called-off midway due to bio-bubblde breach.

According to reports, the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is likely to start on October 17 in UAE, with the final slated to be played on November 14. BCCI is likely to inform the International Cricket Council (ICC) about its decision to shift the marquee tournament to the UAE in its next meeting.

Three venues in UAE which were utilized for conducting the IPL 2020, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai, will most likely host the T20 World Cup games. Oman is set to host the qualifiers of the 16-nation tournament.

Organizing the T20 World Cup in India was turning out to be a big challenge for the BCCI. The cricket board didn’t get any tax exemption from the Indian government. Moreover, after the suspension of IPL 2021 due to bio-bubble breach, not many international players would have been keen to travel to India.
