Rishi Kapoor has been in the US for about a year now. The legendary actor announced in September last year that he is off to NYC to seek medical treatment. While he chose to keep his medical condition under the wrap, it was eventually revealed that he was battling cancer. The actor has put up a brave fight in the US while Neetu Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, and other Kapoor family members have constantly supported him through the process. Now, Rishi is looking forward to returning home and he hopes he makes it in time for Ganesh Chaturthi, which takes place on September 2 this year.
Rishi is on the final leg of his treatment in New York. Speaking with Mid-Day, the actor revealed he wants to be a part of the celebrations for Ganesh Chaturthi is an important celebration for the Kapoor family. “Celebrating Ganpati is a family tradition. So, I am hoping to be part of it,” he said. To top it off, he rings in his birthday on September 4 so it would be dual celebrations for the actor.
This Ganesh Chaturthi celebration will be different from the traditional Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations for the Kapoor family for they won’t be dancing their ways to Chembur, as they have done for years. A few weeks ago, it was revealed that RK Studios has been sold off and it was demolished a few days ago. As heartbreaking as it would be, we would like to see a family picture of Kapoors and sons together on Ganesh Chaturthi.
While he looks forward to being home, Rishi also revealed he misses several Indian dishes including pomfret. The foodie that he is, Rishi said, “I miss eating pomfret; it’s not available here. I also miss the soft homemade chapatis. You get all sorts of naan and rotis, but those soft chapatis made of chakki ka atta are something else!” Well, at least we know what he will get his hands on the moment he reaches home.
While his time away from home and tackling the big C, Rishi admitted that he has learned to be calm with his family and fans. He said he owes it to them for they have showered him with love and good wishes. “Neetu has been my rock and has shouldered all the responsibilities. So has been my family, who would drop in to give me the strength to battle my illness,” he said. Upon his return, Rishi already has work waiting for him. He will be seen back on sets of The Body, with Emraan Hashmi.
