Nineteen Congress legislators from Gujarat have been shifted to a resort in Rajasthan’s Mount Abu ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in the state. Three MLAs of the party have already resigned and there is apprehension that others may follow.
Congress sources said the party is eventually expected to move 26 MLAs to the resort in Rajasthan, which is ruled by the Congress.
The party has 65 MLAs in Gujarat, some of whom have already been packed off to different resorts. The state assembly has 182 seats, out of which 103 are occupied by the BJP. To win a Rajya Sabha seat, a candidate will require 37 votes. After the fresh resignations, it will be tough for Congress to win more than one seat.
Elections for Rajya Sabha are scheduled for June 19.
