World Environment Day observed
Golaghat, June 6: World Environment Day was observed by Golaghat district administration by carrying out a plantation programme at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here today.
Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioners Orpah Baglary, Utpal Doley and Dhiraj Das, Circle Officer, Golaghat, Lakhimi Dutta, Jila Sainik Welfare Officer, Col. B Saikia, along with heads of various departments and officials and staff of the Deputy Commissioner’s office took part in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner stressed on the adverse impact of plastic waste on the environment and asked all present to pledge to reduce the use of plastic and reuse and recycle to the extent possible.
In a separate programme, Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra along with SDO(c) Dhansiri, Bipul Das carried out a plantation drive at Gandhkoroi village in Sarupathar. The Deputy Commissioner was on an inspection visit and took stock of the progress of construction works at the residence of Shahid Kushal Konwar and planted saplings on both sides of the approach road to the residence.
Similar plantation programmes were also carried out in all sub-divisions, departmental offices, circle offices and awareness meetings on the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ were also held.
