Centre approves C’garh’s higher Labour Budget

The Union Rural Development Ministry has approved Chhattisgarh’s proposal to hike the employment target in the Labour budget of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) by two crore man-days.

The target of Labour budget has been increased for a second time in the current financial year. At the start of fiscal 2020-21, the target was set at 135 million man-days.

Considering the work being done under MNREGA and the speed of target completion in Chhattisgarh, the Centre earlier approved a revised target of 15 crore man-days.

In view of the consistently outstanding performance of the state under MNREGA, the Union Ministry has approved an additional two crore man days, on the request of the state government.

The revised target for generating employment under the Labour budget of the current fiscal is 17 crores man-days.

So far in the current financial year, employment of 17.20 crore man-days have been provided in the state under MNREGA. During this period, over 59 lakh workers from more than 30 lakh families have been provided employment.
