The National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday filed a police complaint against former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra on charges of defaming the Congress party. It was alleged in the FIR that Raman Singh and Patra in their social media handle had shared a forged letterhead of the Congress to defame the party. The Civil Lines Police Station of Raipur, on a complaint filed by NSUI Chhattisgarh chief Akash Shama, registered a case under sections 504, 505 (1) a, b, 469 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code. Naming the leaders, the complaint accused them of spreading “false propaganda”. “They forged, falsely fabricated and manufactured the said documents on the letterhead of AICC Research Department and spread such material in social media which has to potential to create communal disharmony, unrest in the country and the said document is being utilized by the BJP to spread fake news which has the potential of evoking violence and hatred,” the complaint said.
