Kapil Dev recommended for steering committee

Former India captain Kapil Dev has been recommended by the Committee of Administrators to be part of a four-member committee that will help with the formation of the Players’ Association. Formation of a Players’ Association has been one of the major recommendations of the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Panel. Apart from Kapil, former Test opener Anshuman Gaekwad and former Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper Bharath Reddy’s names have also been recommended, while GK Pillai is the fourth member of the steering committee.

Earlier, the Lodha Panel wanted a committee comprising of GK Pillai, Mohinder Amarnath, Diana Edulji and former India coach Anil Kumble, but Amarnath and Kumble expressed their inability to take up the job. The CoA, in its report submitted to the Supreme Court, informed that Edulji’s appointment was not a possibility either as she was part of the COA.

The recommendation came in the backdrop of Kapil’s denial of becoming the head of the Players’ Association of Haryana. Kapil has been part of the broadcasting teams of late, while Gaekwad and Bharath Reddy have been involved with administrative roles in Baroda and Tamil Nadu cricket respectively.

Apart from these recommendations, the CoA is also learnt to have sought the replacements of Ramchandra Guha and Vikram Limaye. Guha resigned from his role sometime ago and Limaye will join the National Stock Exchange in days to come.
