Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma to resume battle for T20I domination

India will resume their preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 when they take on South Africa in the 2nd match of the 3-match T20I series in Mohali. After the first T20I getting washed out, both teams would aim to put in their best effort in Mohali as they know that the winner would not lose the series now. With the stakes so high, there is, therefore, not much scope for mistakes by either of the teams.

The focus though will shift to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as the captain and vice-captain will resume battle for T20I supremacy. Rohit Sharma is top-ranked in the all-time list of leading run-scorers in T20Is, as the India opener has 2422 runs from 96 matches at an average of 32.72 while Indian skipper is second on the list, having amassed 2369 runs from 70 matches at a staggering average of 49.35.

Kohli needs 53 runs to become the top run-scorer in T20Is, provided his deputy fails to open his account in the Mohali T20I. Kohli the captain will be eyeing another feat as he can become the first Indian skipper to win a series at home against the South African side in the shortest format of the game.

Rohit Sharma also has the chance to become all-time top scorer against South Africa in the 20 overs format if he scores 83 runs or more. Rohit Sharma’s tally of 341 runs in the T20I format against South Africa are the most by any player in IND-SA T20Is. India vice-captain has amassed 341 runs across 10 innings at an average of 37.88. His maiden T20I ton in 2015 also came against the Proteas.
