MS Dhoni to Anil Kumble: The who’s who of cricket world attend Virat Kohli’s wedding reception

World’s best batsman and India captain Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma hosted a grand reception at St Regis in Lower Parel, Mumbai on Monday.

But while the bride’s film industry had some notable absentees with two of the Khans Aamir and birthday boy Salman missing, the who’s who of Indian cricket checked in to greet the Indian captain.

From former legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly to recently retired Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag and Ashish Nehra all graced the gala ceremony. Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh were in a jovial mood, posing merrily for the cameras.

MS Dhoni, a vital member of the Indian cricket’s limited-overs team, came over with wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva.

Individuals from the Indian Test team which will depart for South Africa on Wednesday led by Virat, came over in groups. While likes of Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rohit Sharma, Parthiv Patel, Wriddhiman Saha all came in with their wives, the bachelor gang from Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav to Shreyas Iyer too registered their presence.

But the surprise of the day was former coach Anil Kumble who attended the glittering event in Mumbai with his wife. After the controversial and bitter end to the Virat-Kumble captain-coach relationship earlier this year, not everyone would have expected Kumble to attend the reception.

Interestingly when Kumble arrived most of the members of the Indian team were also inside. Kumble made a quick exit in 15 minutes, suggesting the strained relationship between the duo may not have healed completely.

But Virat inviting the legend and Kumble reciprocating are positive signs after their relationship having reached a nadir, culminating into Kumble’s exit as coach.
