Team director Ravi Shastri will not be travelling to Zimbabwe with the Indian team next month. However, Shastri will be back with the team for the rest of the season. Sources close to the development said that the decision was taken by Shastri before the Bangladesh tour had begun and he had informed the board.
With several senior players likely to sit out of the tour, the board is mulling to give charge of the team to one of member of the support staff, sources said. However, it was made clear that Shastri will take charge for the Sri Lankan tour (likely in August-September) onwards. In fact, Shastri is likely to continue till the 2016 World T20 Championship, which is scheduled to take place in India for the first time. He may also get a contract beyond the World T20, according to a source. Before the Bangladesh tour, the former India captain had himself indicated that he might stay with the team for a longer duration than expected.
Support staff to get contracts: It has been learnt that the Indian team support staff, comprising Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar, is likely to get two-year contracts ahead of the tour to Zimbabwe.
