Madhya Pradesh In a bid to tackle the big time defaulters in the list of Bhopal municipal corporation, the corporation recovery team may knock their doors while being accompanied by cops.
Reportedly, the corporation has sought help from police for aiding them in recovery drive which at times turns ugly at the doorsteps of defaulters.
The BMC has 2.57 lakh property taxpayers in the city. These taxpayers make payments to the BMC under various heads including water tax, property tax and others.
In commercial category, the corporation has 1 lakh taxpayers in the form of traders and out of this, around 30,000 are big time taxpayers.
Amid mounting taxes against them, the corporation is set to recover its dues by attaching their properties. However in the process, the defaulters did not lag behind in assaulting corporation officers and employees.
Sensing such incidents, the corporation has decided to seek police’s help for keeping things in check during recoveries. Additional Commissioner BMC GP Mali said that situation turns volatile during recovery on occasions so the police presence has been envisaged so that such mishaps could be averted.
As the financial year draws to a close on March 31, the cash strapped BMC is set to intensify its recovery drive.
