The headmaster of a primary school in Chattisgarh’s Surguja district is drawing flak for his giving a go-ahead for using the toilet as a kitchen in the school. The locals say that headmaster Dev Narayan should have given equal importance to the idea of building a kitchen for the students of the primary school.
The students of this primary school in Pashchimpara near Surguja are made to eat inside the toilet as there is no kitchen there. When asked, neither the headmaster nor the teachers commented on the matter.
Local journalist Kamal Gupta said, “There is no facility of water in school. The hand pump installed by village panchayat is defunct. Hence, children draw drinking water from a well, which is situated at a distance of more than 300 meters. They defecate in the fields.”
Block Education Officer Patel said, “The money for construction of kitchen shed has been already transferred and due to the carelessness of the headmaster it was not constructed. A probe has been ordered and action will be taken.”
