Chhattisgarh govt bans paddy import from November 1 till April 30

In a bid to ensure free and fair procurement of paddy on support price, the State government has banned paddy import from other states between November 1 and April 30. The decision was taken by the Cabinet in a recently held meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh at Ministry.
During the Cabinet meeting, the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Punnulal Mohile said that the import of paddy from other states would remain banned between November 1 and April 30.

If traders want to import paddy from other states, it is mandatory to take permission from Commissioner/Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department, Government of Chhattisgarh. However, super-fine variety of paddy, whose rate is Rs 1700 per quintal would be free but importers will have to inform District Food Officer, Mohile said.
The state government will start paddy and maize purchasing on support price from November 15. The Cabinet has decided to purchase paddy on support price between November 15 and January 31 at 42 mandi and 73 sub paddy procurement centres and maize from November 15 to May 31.
Common paddy would be purchased at Rs 1470 per quintal and paddy Grade-A at Rs 1510 per quintal.
Maize will be procured at Rs 1365 per quintal. Fail paddy seed will be procured on support price between March 1 and April 30. Maximum 15 quintal paddy would be purchased per acre in Kharif- 2016-17.
The paddy will be procured on support price through officers appointed by the collector at the paddy procurement centres, whose shortage is over 4 per cent.
Moreover, the Cabinet gave its nod to ensure insurance claim payment to entitle remaining farmers under National Agriculture Crop Insurance Scheme at the earliest. Around 18.43 crore will be paid to 18761 farmers from 11 districts of the state.
The Central government will provide Rs 9.21 crore and the State government will pay Rs 9.21 crore.
