Chhattisgarh unsafe for minors, ranks 6th in crimes against children

Ranked among the fastest developing states, Chhattisgarh has now emerged sixth in crimes against children in the country.
An RTI has revealed that since January to June this year, 2499 cases have been registered. The RTI also revealed that from January 2013 to June 2016, altogether 14,492 cases of crimes against children were registered.

Out of the 14,492 children, 10,373 were girls who became the victim of heinous crimes including trafficking, child abuse, kidnapping and murder.
The crime graph of consecutive three years reveal that drastic escalation of crimes in Chhattisgarh. In 2013, 3777 cases of offences against children were registered, 3872 in 2014, 4344 in 2015. Meanwhile, upto June 30 cases registered across the state were 2499.
Sources have claimed that only 4 per cent of cases of crimes against children get lodged.
CID OSD PN Tiwari who handles cases of crimes against children in the state admits upsurge in the heinous offences against children.
Tiwari said that the rate can go down only by creating awareness among the masses about offences against children and child rights and about the provision of harsh punishment if found guilty. “The role of active and smart policing cannot be ignored,” he further added.
