ISRO chairman all praise for Chhattisgarh’s efforts to utilise space technology

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh on Tuesday said that space technology plays a crucial role in transforming the lives of poor, farmers and villagers in modern era.
Speaking at the inauguration of a workshop on ‘promoting space technology-based tools and applications in governance and development’, he said that space technology is unique in itself as weather conditions can be accurately predicted, forest, minerals and water resources can be estimated, villages and towns plans can be drawn with this unique scientific technology.
The mineral resources can be located and predicted and water streams can be assessed, he added.
ISRO chairman Dr Kiran Kumar appreciated the steps taken by Chhattisgarh in utilising the space technology in social welfare activities. The state tops the list in utilising space technology tools and applications in governance and development. The database of the crucial resources had been prepared.
ISRO chairman said that a pilot project is being run in Durg district on information regarding mines.
Chief minister said that Chhattisgarh is gifted with natural resources which can be utilised for the benefit of masses with the help of satellite imagery and space technology. Public health engineering, agriculture department, water resources and revenue departments can prepare blueprints for the development of state. Space technology can be utilised for constructing tanks and sinking wells in villages and he called upon the concerned departments to include this technology in their projects.
Minister for science and technology Prem Prakash Pandey presided over the workshop.
