The Obaidullah Khan Heritage Cup would kick-start at historical Aishbagh hockey stadium in the city on Wednesday. The heritage cup would be inaugurated with a series of cultural programmes followed by the inaugural match, which would be played between Indian Oil Corporation and ONGC.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would be inaugurating this event which features topmost players from leading 12 teams of the domestic circuit. As many as 200 artists would be presenting the cultural events in the inauguration ceremony.
The Department of Sports Youth Welfare have opened its kitty for the tournament which carries cash prizes of one crore including the Rs 51 lakh award for the winner, Rs 21 lakh and Rs 11 for the first runners up and second runners up respectively.
Every Player of the Match would walk away with cash prize of Rs 5,000.
DSYW has made all efforts for making the inaugural ceremony a grand one. Santosh Shetty, the brain behind the grand opening ceremony of cash-rich IPL and Commonwealth Games New Delhi, has designed and choreographed the inaugural show of 30-minutes, which the DSYW promises to be the one never seen before on the Bhopal’s soil.
Besides battery of international stars and Olympians, Rio stars including SB Sunil, Kothajit, VR Raghunath, SK Uthappa and others would be seen live in action in the tournament.
On the first day, AIU would take on BPCL in the second encounter.
