Raghogarh king Digvijaya Singh goes ‘pauper’, listed as BPL beneficiary

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has been identified as a below poverty line (BPL) beneficiary in hometown Raghogarh.

Digvijaya Singh is still referred as Raja sahib (king) in his hometown as he belongs to the royal family of Raghogarh. His son, MLA Jaivardhan Singh and late wife Aasha Singh also features in the BPL list.

In the year 2011, District Planning & Statistics conducted a socio-economic caste census, that is when Raghogarh’s ‘king’ Digvijaya Singh and his family members’ names were also included in the list.

The incident came to light when the list was being reviewed ahead of a programme under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in which gas connections will to be provided to BPL families on July 31.

Meanwhile, Digvijaya Singh claimed he and his family have never taken any benefit under BPL and termed it as a conspiracy. His son, MLA Jaivardhan Singh expressed displeasure on the issue and said that he will raise the matter in the Assembly.

“GOMP (Government of Madhya Pradesh) and GOI (Government of India) includes my name, my brother’s name, my son’s name in BPL! We all are income tax payees,” Singh tweeted this morning before heading for Goa where he is scheduled to attend the coordination committee meeting of the local Congress unit.

We have neither applied nor taken any benefit under BPL. This is a conspiracy against me and my family.
